Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is a data protection method that continuously captures or tracks data modifications and stores changes independently of the primary data. A CDP appliance works by intercepting all writes to the production volume. It splits each write operation into two copies: one copy is written to the production volume, and the other is sent to a separate storage location where the changes are logged. This enables recovery to any point in time and helps ensure data integrity.

Dell EMC Data Domain is a disk-based backup and recovery solution that incorporates inherent source-based deduplication technology.
